Empowering Independence Workshop
Create your personal vision for a greater independence and take concrete steps towards that future.
Begin taking concrete steps towards independence
This 5-session results-oriented workshop is designed to provide a person-centered, strengths-based framework and action plan for creating and implementing an individual’s vision for independence. This workshop is offered twice per year.
Work alongside other families to find your own path toward more independent living.
Through our 5 weeks together, we’ll work through answering these questions and more:
How do you go about planning for independence?
What are the first or next steps to take on your independence journey?
How do self advocates and their families navigate evolving roles and relationships?
We will be offering this workshop again soon. Stay tuned for dates!
When
This workshop meets for 5 sessions over 5 weeks, from 7:00-8:15pm. Dates for the next sessions will be posted soon.
Where
All sessions take place in real time via Zoom.
Fees
$250.00 registration fee covers all 5 sessions for your family (up to 5 people).
Scholarships are available to those who qualify.
Who Should Come?
The Empowering Independence Workshop is designed for self advocates and family members. We find that it’s most most effective when your whole family joins our sessions and participates in finding solutions that are right for you.
At the very least, we recommend joining with 2 people: an individual with disabilities and one family member. At most, we invite you to include an individual with disabilities and 4 family members/supporters. Please note that family members are welcome to log on from different locations.
Impact
It is important to attend all five sessions in order to fully benefit. Make up sessions are not offered, and sessions will not be recorded.

Guided Exercises & Facilitated Discussion
Together, we’ll participate in various exercises, guided activities, and facilitated discussions to explore topics related to the individual’s and other family members’ shared vision of an independent or interdependent future.
Develop Specific Steps
Throughout the 5-week series, families will develop specific, concrete steps that they can use to continue working towards their independence vision.
We regret that we do not accept waiver funding for this workshop. However, you do not need a waiver to participate.
